Women in Actuarial Science: Resources and Networks
A guide to organizations, mentorship programs, and resources supporting women in the actuarial profession.
Organizations and Networks
Several organizations support women pursuing actuarial careers. The Actuarial Diversity Scholarship program helps underrepresented students, while organizations like the International Association of Black Actuaries (IABA) and the Organization of Latino Actuaries (OLA) provide mentorship and networking. Many large employers have internal women's networks and affinity groups specifically for actuarial professionals. The SOA and CAS both have committees focused on diversity and inclusion that sponsor events, scholarships, and research.
Building Connections
Attending actuarial conferences provides excellent networking opportunities. Events hosted by the SOA, CAS, and AAA often feature sessions on leadership development and career advancement for women. LinkedIn groups dedicated to women in actuarial science offer virtual community and job-sharing opportunities. Mentorship, both formal and informal, remains one of the most effective tools for career advancement. Seeking mentors across different companies and practice areas broadens your perspective and opens doors to opportunities you might not discover otherwise.
