Exam Requirements
The ASA designation requires passing several exams: Exam P (Probability), Exam FM (Financial Mathematics), Exam FAM (Fundamentals of Actuarial Mathematics), Exam SRM (Statistics for Risk Modeling), and Exam PA (Predictive Analytics). You also need to complete three VEE requirements in Economics, Accounting and Finance, and Mathematical Statistics through approved coursework.
Non-Exam Requirements
Beyond exams, ASA candidates must complete the FAP (Fundamentals of Actuarial Practice) modules, which are self-study e-learning modules covering real-world actuarial applications. After FAP, you attend the APC (Associateship Professionalism Course), a live seminar on professional ethics and standards. The entire ASA process typically takes three to five years for candidates studying while working. Plan your timeline carefully, completing VEE requirements during college when possible and scheduling exams at regular intervals to maintain momentum through the process.
