Beyond ACAS
After earning your ACAS, three additional exams are required for FCAS. Exam 7 covers Estimation of Policy Liabilities, Insurance Company Valuation, and Enterprise Risk Management. Exam 8 focuses on Advanced Ratemaking. Exam 9 covers Financial Risk and Rate of Return. These fellowship-level exams are comprehensive, typically requiring 400 to 500 study hours each, and include written-answer sections.
The FCAS Timeline
Most candidates take two to four additional years beyond ACAS to complete the FCAS requirements. Pass rates for fellowship exams are generally lower than for preliminary exams, reflecting their difficulty. The written-answer format requires different preparation strategies than multiple-choice exams. You must demonstrate not just calculation ability but also professional judgment and the ability to communicate actuarial concepts clearly. Completing your FCAS represents full professional credentialing in the P&C actuarial field and typically corresponds to significant career advancement.
