Exam Requirements
The ACAS pathway begins with exams shared with the SOA: Exam 1 (Probability, equivalent to SOA Exam P) and Exam 2 (Financial Mathematics, equivalent to SOA Exam FM). CAS-specific exams include MAS-I (Modern Actuarial Statistics I), MAS-II (Modern Actuarial Statistics II), Exam 5 (Basic Techniques for Ratemaking and Estimating Claim Liabilities), and Exam 6 (Regulation and Financial Reporting).
Additional Requirements
ACAS candidates must complete VEE requirements in Economics, Accounting and Finance, and Mathematical Statistics. You also need to complete CAS Online Courses covering insurance operations and professionalism. The CAS Course on Professionalism is a live seminar similar to the SOA's APC. The entire ACAS process typically takes three to five years. The CAS pathway is more streamlined than the SOA's because there is a single credential track focused entirely on property and casualty insurance.
