The Complete Actuarial Exam Study Plan
A comprehensive framework for planning your study approach to any actuarial exam.
Phase 1: Learning (60% of Study Time)
The learning phase covers new material from your study manual or textbook. Work through each chapter systematically, taking notes and solving end-of-chapter problems. Do not rush this phase since understanding concepts deeply now saves time later. Supplement your primary manual with video lectures or online resources for topics you find particularly challenging. Complete section quizzes after each chapter to check comprehension.
Phase 2: Practice and Review (40% of Study Time)
Transition to practice exams and targeted review four to six weeks before your exam date. Take at least one full practice exam per week under timed conditions. Between practice exams, review weak areas identified by your results. Create summary sheets for quick reference. In the final two weeks, focus on practice exams and formula review. Reduce study intensity in the last two days to arrive at the exam rested and confident. This two-phase structure adapts to any actuarial exam regardless of level or organization.
