Course Overview
The APC is a required seminar for ASA candidates covering actuarial professionalism, ethics, and standards of practice. It is typically a one or two-day event held in various locations throughout the year. The course uses case studies and group discussions to explore ethical dilemmas actuaries face in practice. You must complete all exam and VEE requirements before registering for the APC.
What to Expect
The APC is not an exam. There is no pass or fail. However, attendance and active participation are required throughout the entire session. You will work in small groups analyzing scenarios involving conflicts of interest, qualification standards, and communication obligations. The course covers the Code of Professional Conduct, Actuarial Standards of Practice (ASOPs), and the U.S. Qualification Standards. Pre-read the assigned materials thoroughly since group discussions are more productive when all participants are prepared.
