Creating Summary Sheets for Each Exam Section
How to create effective summary sheets that consolidate key concepts for quick review.
What to Include
A good summary sheet distills each exam section to its essential formulas, definitions, relationships, and problem-solving patterns on one to two pages. Include the formulas you find hardest to remember. Add brief notes on when to apply each formula. List common traps or mistakes you have made on that topic. Leave out material you already know cold since the summary sheet is for items that need reinforcement.
How to Use Them
Create summary sheets progressively as you study each topic, not all at once at the end. The act of deciding what to include forces you to evaluate what is most important. Rewrite your summary sheets from memory periodically to test your recall. Review them daily during the final two weeks before the exam. Carry a printed copy to review during short breaks. Over time, your summary sheets become shorter as more material moves into long-term memory, which is itself a sign of progress.
